Watts Up This Week

The holiday season has begun and we’re underway planning the SFARC Annual Christmas Party and we’d LOVE your involvement in this years event!

You’re invited to this Thursday’s (11/6) planning meeting on Zoom @ 6PM. We’ll talk about all things Christmas Party — we want your input! Many hands make lite work.

For those who are new to SFARC, the Christmas Party is a night of fun that includes:
  • SFARC Year In Review (Slideshow)
  • The honorable “Golden Brick” achievement award
  • WA6E’s Stand Up Routine / Trivia 🙂
  • Appointment of 2026 SFARC Officers
  • Great stories and food!

RSVP NOW for the Christmas Party @ https://www.w6ek.org/rsvp

We’ve received a number of questions regarding whether there is a cost for club members.

Although the tradition of Christmas potlucks predates my time with the club, I’ve heard many fond stories about them. Potlucks are always fun—and we’ve enjoyed several this year—but a few years ago, the club made the shift to a catered meal for our holiday celebration. As you’re aware, prices for just about everything have been rising. For the past couple of years, SFARC has covered the full cost of this event.

Currently, the meal cost per guest is roughly equal to a full year’s membership dues. If a member brings a guest, that’s essentially two years’ worth.

To help offset these costs, I’ve made the difficult decision to request a $10 per-guest fee this year (paid at the door). This contribution will help cover the cost of dinner and prizes, ensuring we can continue hosting a festive, memorable celebration.

Thank you for your continued support of SFARC.

SEPTEMBER FOX HUNTS UPDATE — HUNTS? The first Fox Hunt will be Saturday, 9/20 at a special location; Stampede Reservoir off of Interstate 80, just east of Truckee CA. This Fox Hunt is scheduled to coordinate with the SFARC annual campout. The Fox Hunt will start with a pre-meeting at the camp host’s (base camp site, Site 228) starting after the morning breakfast, usually no earlier than about 10 AM. If you are not planning to camp, then consider coming up for the breakfast (don’t forget to RSVP), stay for the day joining the Fox Hunt later in the morning, enjoy all the afternoon fun events, and then savor the Saturday night dinner (again, please don’t forget to RSVP). Stampede is actually a reasonable drive from most Sacramento areas…less than two hours with normal traffic.

Regular pre-meeting time of 9 AM directly following the monthly club breakfast in the parking lot of Wings following the SFARC monthly breakfast.

Bob (KD6QVD) will show us several of his tactical radio setups, focusing on goal-oriented approaches to engineering and design. Many of us aspire to put together go-boxes and easy to deploy communications systems, but along the way things often end up more complex than they need to be. Come join us as Bob explains what goes into his builds and how easy they are to operate, both as an individual and a team. If you’ve ever been interested in top-spec portable operations, this is one presentation you won’t want to miss out on!
