Extra Helping of Watts Up This Week

As we reflect back at another successful year at SFARC, may we be reminded of all the good times, laughs, and fun we’ve had as a club.

One recent highlight from 2023 was a conversation I pulled from the W6EK streaming archive between Ray (KK6AM) and a callsign he didn’t recognize AK6DU. If you know Ray, and his daughter Christina, this is worth a listen. You can practically here the light bulb go on over Ray’s head as he realized that his daughter not only got her license but went all the way from unlicensed to Extra in under 60 minutes. 🙂

The repeater audio is from December 6th, 2023 shortly after 4 PM PT and can be found on the main page of https://www.w6ek.org/ under SFARC TV.

Watts Up This Week

A MESSAGE FROM JEFF (KM6RGO):

Well, ‘Tis the season, as they say! Christmas season is my favorite time of year. We get to splurge on our families, visit with friends, and be generous to others. Generosity is a relative. Sometimes, it means giving money to something or someone, more than we would any other time of year. The giving of money is relatively easy, if you have it to give. However, generosity of time is truly something to behold.

Our time is the most precious thing we have. Time is finite, and time given for the benefit of others is something to behold. I am constantly impressed with the generosity of our Ham community. Our time is often given freely to others learning our expansive hobby. Our Ham community grows stronger with each connection. This holiday season, continue to do what we do best, share what we have learned, so our community can have the capacity to serve those less fortunate than us more broadly.

It has been an honor serving Sierra Foothills ARC as president. I truly believe your generosity towards me have been marvelous. I welcome to the new leadership team coming in next year. May they learn as much as I have.

Merry Christmas!

Watts Up This Week

SFARC Members and Friends,

This weeks “Watts Up” email comes a few days late.  That’s because we’re feverishly preparing for the Feliz Navidad holiday party and the SFARC 2023 annual slideshow coming up THIS Saturday!

We hope you all enjoyed the presentation from Dr. Fong last week. We have a few uSDX units to give away at the holiday party but maybe you’re not going to be at party or you want one NOW! Ben Parish (K6GEO) has arranged a “bulk order” with Dr, Fond for a group order to combine shipping. If interested, please reply to this email and we’ll get you in touch with Ben.

We’re proud to announce we welcomed 5 new technicians and 1 upgrade to extra this week at the monthly VE session.
  • Kevin Osborne (KO6BMC) – Upgraded to Extra
  • Christopher Cotter (KO6CGP) – New Technician
  • John Mangels (KO6CGN) – New Technician

Last Call | Christmas Fiesta

SFARC Members,

This just in from the desk of our Christmas party chair.

SFARC’s annual end of year celebration (our Feliz Navidad Fiesta) occurs on December 9th starting at 5PM at the Crossroads Church South Campus Gymnasium, 1101 Auburn Ravine Rd, Auburn, CA 95603 (the same place we hold our meetings).

If you plan to attend and haven’t yet sent in an RSVP please go to https://rsvp.w6ek.org ASAP.

Since this is a catered event, we need to submit a count of the number of attendees by THIS Friday. On the other hand, if you already sent an RSVP and now find you will not be in attendance, please let me know by email at wa6e@arrl.net. The club does not charge it’s members for the dinner but we have to pay the caterer for each meal ordered and there is no sense ordering and paying for food if you won’t be there to eat it.

We have a whole host of drawing prizes, about 70 at last count. The whole list can be found at www.w6ek.org. Notable among these is a ClearNode, a CommRadio CR-1 Receiver, and three NanoVNA’s. These will be for our grand prize winners. Your odds of winning something at this Fiesta are pretty high although nothing is guaranteed.

THE DEADLINE FOR RSVP’S IS THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1st.

We will have photos of the club’s activities during the year, awarding of the Golden Brick Award to the next honoree, the annual Trivia Contest, induction of new officers and board members, memorable speeches, and wonderful camaraderie.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
