Tomorrow Night’s Meeting | SFARC Election Night

SFARC Members,
Tomorrow night is election night for SFARC and WE NEED YOU. Did you know that based on SFARC’s bylaws, it takes 62 club members to be present for quorum (both online and in person). As a club member, it’s important you attend since we’ll be voting in some new officers. We hope you can attend if not in person, online @ meeting.w6ek.org
A reminder for this weekend. We’ve got a POTA kicking off Saturday morning and we want you to come by. If you’re planning to join us, please head over to www.w6ek.org and RSVP ASAP!

Congratulations New Hams

A great turnout for the November VE Session with a big congratulations going out to the following folks: Murugan Balasubramanian, Marsha Brashear, Jeremiah Dauphinals, Jason Hodkin, and Carly Geo who all got their Technicians license last night. In fact, at only 9 years old, Carly might have set a record completing her tech exam in about 2 minutes with a near perfect score. When asked after, she read the manual 3 times and took over 100 practice tests. Now that is some dedication!!! We can’t forget one last congratulations to Paul Walker who got a perfect score on his tech test and then took the general and got, ANOTHER PERFECT SCORE! Congratulations to you all, we can’t wait to hear you on the air.

Looking Forward November

The month of November brings with it an event-filled week, starting with a club VE session on the 4th. Come join us and get your license to transmit, or upgrade to receive additional band privileges. More than just an exam session, we provide one-on-one mentoring before and after the test so you’re ready to get on the air with confidence!

Our club meeting on the 8th features a great presentation on battery-operated power sources from Brian (KM6MDM). If you’ve ever been interested in building your own power source for taking out into the field, emergency back-up, or to enhance your electronics DIY skill set, join us for an informative night as Brian goes over what he used to put together his battery box, what motivated him to build it, and what he uses it for.

The next day many of us will gather at Beales Point for a Parks On The Air activation. Starting at 8 AM on the 9th we’ll have 3 HF stations you can use to make contacts with others all over the world. Take a moment to hang out with friends and family, and bring some food for a picnic. This is a great time to experience field operation away from your home station and enjoy the view of Folsom Lake.

Our monthly club breakfast will take place on the 30th, where we’ll meet at Mel’s Diner in Auburn at 7:30 AM for some great food before we head off on a special radio direction finding event! Bring your friends and family for a relaxed hunt through the park as you have fun while learning about the techniques and skills that go into RDF!

Wishing you all a great Thanksgiving!

NOVEMBER POTA PARTY

It’s that time again! we are going to have a POTA PARTY! We will be meeting in the Beals Point Parking Lot at Folsom Lake on Saturday, November 9th at 8:00A. We will keep going until either the park closes, or everyone goes home. The goal is to have 3 HF stations going using the W6EK call sign. All are welcome to come play radio with us! Parking is $12.

PLAN TO COME?

Watts Up This Week (Extra Helping)

SFARC Members,

We understand the frustration and appreciate the feedback regarding the new online voting. In my follow up email earlier, I referred to a menu that I see (as an administrator) but you don’t see. You should see an option for “Election & Surveys”. Look for this link (photo below) when logged in and you will find the option to vote.

Yes, this is the first time we’ve used this service from HCOL so thank you for the patience while we learn some of the in’s and outs. This will likely be the method we use moving forward each month so it IS important to get access to your HCOL account and be able to access it.
