FROM AUBURN:
After Truckee, keep traveling east on Interstate 80 for around 10 miles to the Hirschdale Road exit. Follow Hirschdale Road/Stampede Dam Road north for about 7 miles.

Look for the sign for Stampede Reservoir Dam and take a left on Dog Valley Road to go over the dam (pay attention to your odometer, it’s easy to miss this turn). A word of caution: if you miss the turn, the road changes names to Dog Valley Road. If the road dead ends or turns to dirt, you missed the turn.

Once you’ve gone over the dam, you’ll encounter “Emigrant Group Campground” —  keep going! 🙂  In a quarter mile, Logger Campground will be on the right.

At this time of year, the guard station is often closed. After the guard station, make a left and follow the road. Once you reach the “Ox Bow” loop sign, you’re close. Keep going until the end and look for the “Double Bit” loop.

ANOTHER WORD OF CAUTION: DO NOT TAKE THE HOBART MILLS TO DOG VALLEY ROAD ROUTE. DO NOT USE THIS ALTERNATE ROUTE IF YOU HAVE AN RV OR VEHICLE WITH LOW CLEARANCE.
