PACIFICON 2024 ADVANCE TICKET SALES END 10/01 @ 11:59PM
The Mt. Diablo Amateur Radio Club presents PACIFICON 2024 ARRL Pacific Division Convention October 18-20, 2024 San Ramon Marriott Hotel. Save $10 and register in advance @ www.pacificon.org/registration/attendees or you can wait in line on the day of… 🙂 The deadline for advance tickets is tomorrow night (October 1st) @ 11:59 PM.

PACIFICON 2024 features a long list of interesting forums and presentations from some of the most well-known and respected names in amateur radio. You really don’t want to miss this! NEXT MONTH CLUB BREAKFAST
We know there was some confusion this past weekend. Next weekend we’re back at Mel’s Diner. The most up to date information about the monthly club breakfast can always be found @ https://www.w6ek.org/activities/clubbreakfast. Brian AI6US makes sure that page is kept up to date.
THIS WEEKEND IS THE CALIFORNIA QSO PARTY
The California QSO Party is this coming weekend starting on 10/05 @ 1600 UTC, ending 10/06 @ 2200 UTC.  Stations outside of California work as many California stations in as many CA Counties as possible. Stations inside California work everyone. Non-CA to non-CA contacts do not count for QSO credit.

The Hunt Is On

This is not your parent’s Fox Hunt, this one is special — 24 hours long!!!

Inviting all local clubs and friends of Sierra Foothills ARC to the first 24-hour, wide area Fox Hunt. The hidden fox transmitter will be located within a 20-mile radius of downtown Auburn, CA. The 2-meter transmitter will be turned on at 9:30 am on October 26th, 2024, and turned off at 10 am on October 27th. This is a self-timed event from a starting point to the transmitter’s location. Fox hunters may start at any time during the 24-hour event. Start your stopwatch timing when leaving the parking lot of the Historic Auburn Courthouse located at 101 Maple St, Auburn, CA 95603. You may hunt solo or as a team. All team members must leave the starting point at or after the stopwatch timing has started.

The Loss of an SFARC Friend

It’s with great sadness that we share the news of another SK. Bill Silva aka. “Colusa Bill” (KA6FKK) passed away on September 20th due to complications from a stroke.

From dialing around 40M and landing on that BIG voice to hearing him participate on nearly all of our nets including the Coffee Break, Given the distance, and being the sole caretaker of his mom, it was hard for Bill to attend many events but he did make a special trip to Hamfest last March to meet Brian and Smitty; it was great to put a face with the voice. 🙂

Bill’s voice, laugh, and calm demeanor will certainly be missed.  As we learn more about his celebration of life, we’ll make sure to share it here.

Breakfast and Fox Hunt

SFARC Members and Friends,
 
We have received multiple emails with some confusion surrounding tomorrow’s breakfast AND Fox Hunt.
 
1, The Fox Hunt IS happening, the information on the website is current.
 
2. The SFARC club breakfast is at Wings in Auburn tomorrow, NOT Mel’s Diner.
Apparently there was an email sent out automatically from Groups referencing Mel’s. That was incorrect.
 
We’re sorry for the confusion and have already made changes to keep this from happening in the future.

While many are coming down from an amazing SFARC campout, we’re gearing up for what’s in store in the coming week. A B1G thank you to Brian Gohl (the brains and muscle) behind the event and Smitty (WB1G) for bringing the “FU” in FUN. :). <- If you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at? All joking aside, what makes a group campout fun like that is the people, and boy did we have a fun group. Thanks to everyone else involved in making it a wonderful time. At next years campout, Smitty (WB1G) will be providing a session on how to keep your RV in tip top shape while making repairs on the go. CLUB BREAKFAST — THIS SATURDAY Get your food on and join us for breakfast on Saturday at 7:30A at Wings in Auburn. POTLUCK PICNIC IN THE PARK — OCTOBER 12TH Fall is approaching and before we know it, the holidays will be here. A big congratulations to the newest General and Extra in the Sacramento Valley, Stanley Lehman (KO6FMI /AG) and Robert Miller (KO6EXL /AE). Honorable mention to Robert for a PERFECT SCORE tonight on his extra exam, 50/50! The next chance to upgrade is October 7th with SFARC.
