May/June Fox Hunt News

May Fox Hunt Fun

Fifteen HAMs participated in the SFARC May Fox Hunt. A good turnout.  Special shoutout to Lowell Fletcher W6LDF who drove all the way from Redding CA to join in. Wow!

The Hunt got off to a slow start but thanks to both Brian AI6US and Doug W2VX who jumped in to help Joshua KN6NUF with his first Fox Hunt as the Fox Tender.  Joshua had a great idea for making the Fox mobile; however, we learned that the execution of a mobile Fox is going to take some more thought and planning.  We will build on this idea in the future. Despite the slow start everyone still had a great time.

Congratulations to Chase Galland the grandson of Tom NN6H for being the first to find the Fox.  A good reminder is that Fox Hunts are a great family affair and you do not need to be a licensed HAM to hunt for the Fox.

Here were the May Fox Hunters:

Patrick Leiser AK6JP

Dudley McFadden KO6DRM

Marty Main N6BLO

George McDougall KD6CWU

Matt Elyash KO6IMP

David Honeywell KO6HXC

Jayden Rikkers-Fisher W6EFM

John Fisher KO6COW

Tom Newman NN6H

Chase Galland

Lowell Fletcher W6LDF

Evan Phillips AJ6OR

Brian Gohl AI6US

Doug Chandler W2VX

Joshua Morris KN6NUF

There will not be a Fox Hunt in June due to Field Day 2026 on the last Saturday of the month.  The “Hunt” in June will be on the airwaves at Georgetown Airport seeking contacts.  Please get involved in Field Day if you can. The next SFARC Fox Hunt will be Saturday July 25, and John Fischer KO6COW and his son Jayden Rikkers-Fischer W6EFM will be our Fox Tenders.

June 2026 Meeting Presentation

For the June meeting we will have the Field Day leadership team of Mark W2MWK and Smitty WB1G give us an overview of the club’s plan for this iconic Ham Radio event. Field Day is an operating event dating back to 1933, with a basis in emergency preparedness. SFARC events are typically social events and FD is truly a social with a component of off-grid and a healthy dose of getting on the air. Our club leans into all aspects of the event, making it something to be enjoyed by all.

The event is held yearly on the last full weekend of June, this year from June 26th through the 28th.
