Looking Forward

The month of June is stacked to the brim with events every week. A big shout-out to all the participants in this year’s Field Day T-Shirt contest who provided great designs across the board. It was difficult to rank them since they all had their own stylistic appeal.

We’ll kick off the month with a VE exam session on the 3rd, where I’ll be Elmering new licensees and upgrades both before and after their exam. It’s a fun and rewarding way to give back within the hobby of amateur radio, and there’s always something to teach and learn at these sessions.

Our club meetings are held at 7:30 PM on the second Friday of the month, and this month’s meeting on the 14th features Jeff (KM6RGO), who will get us up to speed on plans for Field Day and Steve (W1SRD), sharing his experiences being the DX at Clipperton Island. If you’ve ever wondered what things are like for operators on a DXpedition, the challenges they must overcome, and the conditions they work with, don’t miss out on this month’s meeting. Even if you can’t make it live, stop by our YouTube channel to learn all about it!

A week later, on the 21st, I’ll be at Georgetown Airport for Field Day! The first time I attended it was just for a few hours in the afternoon, the second time it was for an evening, and the third time it was for a full weekend where I slept in the back of my SUV. This year I’m going to put up a tent and relive my childhood days of camping out in the forest. I hope to see you there for a weekend of fun and excitement!

We then round out the month with our club breakfast and fox hunt on the 29th. We’ve been having great fun at these events, and every month our fox tenders manage to up the difficulty and send us all off on a run looking for those hidden transmitters. If you’re able to join us please do so, and come hungry because the food is always good and even better with friends.

At last, but not least, Hot RF Nights will be held in July this year. Our club’s show-and-tell event drew quite the publicity last year, and this year we plan on getting the word out even further. Look forward to a parking lot full of mobile installs and portable setups from both amateur and professional radio operators!

Whether you’re planning on going to all of these great events, some of them, or just one, I look forward to meeting you there!
