Recordings of amateur radio traffic shortly after the '89 quake. Traffic all relates to activities happening in Santa Clara Valley. Net control initially Ted Harris / N6KP (formerly N6IIU) later assumed by Frank Wyatt N6FW (Santa Cruz County EC for San Lorenzo Valley.) I do not believe either the initial NC nor N6FW was at an EOC, Santa Cruz or in Santa Clara Valley. When listening, consider the reports of legitimate Priority or Emergency traffic (e.g., "I see a fire toward Los Altos Hills...", "broken water main on corner of Walk and Don't Walk, CHP is there...", injuries, etc. vs. "I've got a broken water pipe ...", etc. which is, IMHO, is much more a local, personal problem vs. something that rises to a level of Priority. Also consider those who insist on keying down just so that they can talk too. Consider the need to enforce strict net discipline, including message brevity devoid of "please" and "thank you", avoidance of codes (Q-codes etc.). -- Jim / n6med
